State penalizes Federal Way-based mover
Company failed to provide customers with required documentation

OLYMPIA, Wash. – State regulators have penalized Ivan Ratko, owner of Federal Way-based Best Moving and Delivery LLC, for failing to follow consumer protection rules and regulations.

The Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) ordered Mr. Ratko to pay a $7,000 penalty for 204 violations of commission rules related to providing customers estimates and inventories.

The commission suspended $5,000 of the penalty on the condition a follow-up investigation in six months shows that the company has corrected the violations and is complying with consumer protection rules and regulations.

Residential moving companies are required by law to provide each customer with a signed estimate prior to a move to ensure both the customer and company have agreed to the terms of the move.

If Mr. Ratko does not comply with the commission's order, the suspended portion of the penalty will become due and payable.

The UTC is the state's watchdog agency in charge of enforcing consumer protection and safety regulations for more than 200 residential moving companies operating within the state. Movers must charge appropriate rates, carry proper insurance and keep their vehicles safely maintained. The commission does not regulate interstate moving companies.
